Most Common Mistakes I see Healthcare Professionals make when it comes to Phlebotomy Skills

Oftentimes, healthcare professionals are rushed, under a lot of pressure and stress, and many minor details for skill development can get thrown by the wayside due to the prioritization on speed and urgency. In some situations, this may be inevitable. But ideally, if healthcare professionals can develop a solid infrastructure to their skills development first, than speeding up the process can come more naturally without sacrificing success of the skill.
Some of the most frequent aspects of skill development that I see get thrown by the wayside is the energy that the professional brings into the room, lack of patient interaction, and overall lack of assessment and proper set up. So many healthcare professionals take these parts of the skill for granted, or do not even consider them part of the skill. But in my own personal experience, I have found that these aspects of my skill are actually the parts that allowed me such success. That is why I put together a 5 Step Guide to Successful Phlebotomy - this guide discusses further the importance of these aspects and how the can impact your overall success with the skills.
I also discuss these aspects in greater detail in my Online Phlebotomy Skills 101 Course.
As with many things in life, it is usually the simple things that have the greatest impact. It's always the simplest solution that is usually right under our nose. And that is very much true when it comes to specialized healthcare skills. I have seen countless healthcare professionals improve their skills with the slightest and most simple adjustments. I am confident that if more healthcare professionals take a step back and look at their process and procedures, they can certainly find a way to incorporate some of these simple solutions.
